Starting next September, the Irish Government’s Free Schoolbooks Scheme for Junior Cycle in Post-Primary Schools will kick in. Each student in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year will receive €309, totalling €927 across the three years. This money can be used for various school essentials, such as books, eBooks, book covering, calculators, dictionaries, exam papers, activity books, and writing materials. Essentially, it covers everything a student might need for their studies.

The costs for 1st-year students are typically higher compared to those for 2nd or 3rd years. Schools can decide how to allocate the funds over the three years to meet the needs of their students. However, it’s important to note that this funding isn’t available for students in 4th, 5th, or 6th year.

Additionally, schools are granted a window of 10 to 16 administration days, depending on their size, to manage the logistics of the scheme effectively.

The government emphasizes the importance of taking care of the provided textbooks, as they are valuable resources that come at a significant cost. To protect these books, schools are encouraged to cover and safeguard them. Filfix school book covers are quick, durable, and cost-effective, ensuring that the books stay in good condition throughout the school year.

In essence, this initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families by providing essential school supplies free of charge. By covering a wide range of items and allowing flexibility in fund allocation, the scheme ensures that students have the tools they need to succeed in their studies during the junior cycle of post-primary education.
